Augmented Reality (AR) typically uses head-mounted displays (HMDs) and high precision head tracking to accurately overlay graphics and spatially locate sounds of simulated entities in the real world. Unlike Virtual Reality (VR), which strives for total immersion of the user in a virtual world, AR keeps the user immersed in the real world, and selectively augments it with virtual entities. Thus AR can maintain high fidelity - that of the real world - over large areas while only needing to render graphics and sounds for a few individual objects.
Video Overlay AR System.
Video overlay is inexpensive and avoids the many problems
of see-through overlay. A head mounted gyro provides
accurate head tracking.
